Jewellery Care Guide

Gold plated 925 sterling silver jewellery is made to last, but like all precious metals it responds to how it is worn, cleaned, and stored. A few simple habits will keep your pieces looking their best for years.

Daily Wear Tips

• Put it on last. Apply perfume, deodorant, hair spray, and lotion before wearing your jewellery. Chemicals in these products are one of the main causes of fading and tarnish.
• Take it off first. Remove your jewellery before changing clothes, washing your face, or applying any cream or cleanser.
• Keep it away from water. Remove your jewellery before bathing, swimming, washing dishes, or exercising. Sweat, chlorine, and salt water dull the gold plating over time.
• Handle with care. Avoid pulling, bending, or pressing on stone-set designs, especially kundan, polki-style, and navratna pieces.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

• After every wear: wipe each piece gently with a soft, dry cotton or microfibre cloth. This removes oils and sweat before they settle on the surface.
• For a deeper clean: dip a soft cloth in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild soap, wipe the piece gently, then dry it completely with a dry cloth before storing.
• Do not use: toothpaste, baking soda, silver polishing cloths, ultrasonic cleaners, or chemical silver dips. These remove the gold plating.
• Do not soak: never soak jewellery in water, especially pieces with stone settings.

Storing Your Jewellery

• Store in an airtight pouch or box. Silver reacts with air over time. Keeping pieces in an airtight pouch slows tarnish and keeps the gold plating bright.
• Keep pieces separate. Store each piece individually so that metal, stones, and plated surfaces do not rub against each other and scratch.
• Away from moisture. Do not store jewellery in bathrooms or near windows where humidity and heat can accelerate tarnish.
• Flat for chains and haath paan. Store chains and haath paan flat or hanging to prevent tangles and kinks.

Gold Plated Silver Sets

These are your statement pieces — wear them for occasions and store them carefully in between. Avoid getting perfume on the necklace area and always wipe after wearing.

Haath Paan

Store flat or coiled loosely in a soft pouch to keep the connecting chain from kinking. Wipe after every use and avoid wearing while washing hands.

Rings

Rings are exposed to the most everyday contact. Remove before washing hands, using hand sanitiser, or doing any work with water or chemicals. Store in a small box or pouch.

Silver Chains and Bracelets

Sterling silver will naturally develop a slight patina over time. This is normal and can be gently removed with a soft cloth. Store chains hanging or laid flat to prevent knotting.

Rudraksha Malas and Bracelets

Wipe the silver components with a soft cloth after use. The Rudraksha beads can be gently cleaned with a soft dry brush. Avoid soaking in water or exposing to perfume and chemicals. Store in a dry pouch or box.

Pearl Pieces

Pearls are delicate. Keep them away from perfume, acidic substances, and prolonged moisture. Wipe gently after wearing and store separately from other jewellery that could scratch the surface.

When to Re-plate

Gold plating is a surface finish and will gradually thin with wear, especially on high-contact areas like rings and bracelets. If the gold begins to look dull or the silver base starts to show, the piece can be taken to a local jeweller for re-plating. Because the base is genuine 925 sterling silver, re-plating is straightforward and relatively inexpensive.

A Note on Tarnish

Silver naturally reacts with sulphur in the air, which causes tarnish — a darkening of the surface. This is not damage; it is a natural property of silver. Storing in an airtight pouch and wiping regularly prevents most tarnish. If tarnish does appear on a silver piece, a soft cloth will usually remove it.
